Breathing Together for Change – A vision for lung health policies across the life-course

A patient-led session at the European Health Forum Gastein 2025 will highlight urgent policy priorities to reduce Europe’s lung health inequalities, focusing on prevention, early diagnosis, and stronger care across all ages.

Respiratory diseases affect over 82 million Europeans, cost €1.4 trillion annually, and remain the sixth leading cause of death. A new WHO Europe report highlights persistent inequalities in lung health, from delayed diagnosis to barriers in self-management for people living with asthma, COPD and other chronic respiratory diseases.

This session will present a vision for lung health policies across the life-course, showing how preventive public health measures, early intervention in children and adults, and multidisciplinary approaches to care can improve outcomes and build resilient societies.

Meet our speakers: Susanna Palkonen (EFA), José Luis Castro (WHO), Zsuzsanna Miklós (National Korányi Institute for Pulmonology), Cornel Radu-Loghin (ENSP), Thomas Allvin (EFPIA) | Moderator: Frazer Goodwin (EFA)
